If you’ve been wondering whether Baby Sensory is right for you and your baby, September is a lovely time to give it a go 💕

Our new term means lots of babies and their grown-ups will be joining us for the very first time — so if you’re new, you absolutely won’t be the only one!

Baby Sensory is specially designed for babies from birth to 13 months, with every session packed with fun, purposeful activities to support your baby’s development — from sensory exploration and communication to movement, coordination and social skills.

But honestly? It’s about so much more than what your baby learns.

It’s an hour each week to put the washing on hold, get out of the house, sing, play, giggle and enjoy some proper one-to-one time with your baby 🥰

Have you heard about sensory play but are unsure how to incorporate this into your baby's routine?

Here our Founder and leading parenting expert, Dr Lin Day, shares some ideas of how you can encourage sensory play from birth.

You'll see that often these things happen naturally and you aren't even aware that they are classed as sensory play!

Sight - although your baby's sight is still developing in the first few months, moving an object or toy around slowly in front of them will help them to improve their tracking.

Sound - having listened to your voice in the womb, your baby will instantly recognise your voice from birth. Simply talking, reading or singing a lullaby to your baby will soothe them.

Touch - this is one of your baby’s earliest sensory experiences and it plays an important role in the development of the brain. Massage, close physical contact (especially skin-to-skin), stimulates the production of oxytocin (known as the ‘love’ or bonding’ hormone), which makes your baby feel comfortable, warm, and safe.

Smell - there are plenty of opportunities to stimulate this sense in the home from cooking smells to the scent of fresh flowers. As you get out and about more your baby will also be aware of new smells too.

Taste - If your baby has started solids, they will enjoy exploring the smell and taste of different foods. They will soon let you know which ones they likes best. Before this they will only be familiar with the taste of their usual milk.

I’m so excited to share that Toddler Sense Jersey is relaunching with classes starting in September! 🌈✨

Toddler Sense Classes will be running on Mondays and Tuesdays and Baby Sensory will continue to run on a Wednesday and Thursday all from Ebenezer Hall, Trinity.
